Brian Culbertson - Bringing Back the Funk

Brian Culbertson成長於伊利諾州的一個爵士世家中，擅長演奏的樂器是keyboard和trombone，已發行了大約有十張的專輯，他的音樂大概具有兩種面貌，一種是勁道十足、輕快跳躍的Jazz Funk，另一種則是較為悠揚柔美的Smooth Jazz，但是，同樣都洋溢著濃郁的黑人靈魂風味，實在很難和長得一臉盎格魯薩克遜樣的Brian Culbertson連結起來。還要提到一點，這張專輯的錄音工程真的好犀利，鋼琴的效果有如筷子敲擊水晶玻璃所發出的清亮涕透聲響、也可清楚聽到吉他弦在抖動的共震，非常的悅耳動聽！

Marcus Miller - Marcus

這大概是我這輩子聽到的唱片中，第一片、也是唯一一片以Electric Bass做為主奏的專輯，算是我的一個小小嘗試。少了以往在聽覺上依賴的搧情吉他嘶吼，卻有著出乎意料的獨特感受，你可以很清楚的聽到Marcus Miller運用了各種炫技演出，但我不認為那支Bass真有什麼神奇魔力，優異的編曲、製作能力才是讓專輯悅耳出色的主因；他的Jazz融合了許多R&B, Funk, Smooth Jazz的特性，歌曲的表情因此顯得多元而豐富，專輯中也重新詮釋了包括：Stevie Wonder、Miles Davis...等名家的經典老歌，這些歌曲經由他的巧手改編，硬是變成了一首首活潑生動的Jazz Funk或是像Track 10般極其優美的Smooth Jazz(這是我聽過最棒的一個When I Fall In Love！)。
